George Nelson
George Nelson, born 1908 in Hartford, Connecticut was an American industrial designer and one of the founders of American Modernism. He did not originally set out to become an architect but fate lead him to the path when one rainy day he happened upon the architecture school at Yale, when he ducked into a building and as he walks his way through the building, he immediately found where he belonged. Entering the profession in the depths of the Great Depression, Nelson competed for and was awarded a Rome Prize, which provided a two-year stipend to study at the American Academy in Rome. George Nelson shaped the course of design in America for over four decades. Many of his designs were known worldwide including the Coconut Chair, Marshmallow Sofa, and Ball Clock to name a few.CONTEMPORARY INSPIRATION
MID- CENTURY MODERNISM
The Style Sunflower Wall Clock features steam bent bands of wood so connected as to create an open petal pattern. The bands have alternating light and dark stains on the inside faces. These are centered on a black disk housing a high-quality Quartz movement (requiring only one AA battery; not included). White hands sweep out time over the black core of the flower.
SLEEK APPEAL
With the diversity of materials used and their sculptural shapes, George Nelson’s style Sunflower Wall Clock embody the joie de vivre of the 1950s. Its metal face is fitted with perfectly-formed hour and minute hands, complete with a smooth quartz-driven movement that turns the measure of time into an engrossing aesthetic experience. Enliven a plain living space with the help of its expressive and delicately floral design appeal.
